Identity: Educationist, Children's Author, and Leader of Jamaat-e-Islami HindAfzal Husain Khan was born on January 2, 1918, in Janthe Diha village, Basti district, Uttar Pradesh. His father's name was Mansab Dar Khan. He received his primary education from the primary school in Dudhara, while completing his middle and high school education at Khair Inter College, Basti. Later, he passed his Intermediate (1937) and B.A. (Honours, English) in 1939 from Aligarh Muslim University. In 1940, he obtained his L.T. (equivalent to modern B.Ed.) degree from Allahabad University. He completed his M.A. from Agra University.He rendered teaching and administrative services in various government training institutions from 1941 to 1948. However, in 1948, he resigned from government service, taking the stance that the existing education system was not satisfactory from an Islamic perspective. Following this, he associated himself with the educational and organizational works of the Central Darasgah-e-Islami, Rampur, and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.Afzal Husain Khan was influenced by the thought of Maulana Syed Abul A'la Maududi in his youth and formally accepted the membership of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1944. He rendered long services in the educational, training, and organizational wings of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. He served as the Superintendent (Nazim) of the Central Darasgah-e-Islami for nearly fifteen years and remained associated with the education department for twenty-five years. He held the position of Assistant Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from 1963 to 1970, and served as the Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from 1972 to 1989.Education and grooming (Taleem-o-Tarbiyat) remained the central theme of his life. He authored and compiled numerous reformative, moral, and educational books for children and youth. His prominent publications include Fun-e-Taleem-o-Tarbiyat, Hamari Dunya, Aina-e-Tareekh, Hamare Naghme, Aam Maloomat, Hamari Kitab, and Motiyon Ka Haar. Specifically, Fun-e-Taleem-o-Tarbiyat is considered a highly significant and authentic treatise on the subject of education and pedagogy in Urdu.Death: Afzal Husain Khan passed away on January 1, 1990, in New Delhi.
